Edinburg has been booming lately with the addition of attractions like the athletic stadiums, birding centers, and great walking trails. One of the newest and most exciting is the Resaca Market, and if you haven’t heard about it yet, read on.
What’s A Resaca?
If you aren’t from the area, you might not know a resaca is a former channel of the Rio Grande. They’re oxbow lakes cut off from the river, and they’re unique to our area. When the snow melts in the north, water floods the Rio Grande and rivers carve out these lakes. They leave fresh beauty behind when the water retreats.
The Birth of Resaca Market
Only two miles from our Russell Park community, The Resaca Market is a 45-acre project that is being built in North Edinburg, off of U.S. Highway 281 and near Monte Cristo Road.
At Resaca Market, find everything from canoeing to outdoor concert performances, shopping, and much more. It is an estimated $250 million project led by the Edinburg-based Burns Brothers, LTD and the Edinburg Economic Development Corporation.
The Resaca will be the centerpiece of the area, and around it you’ll find a movie theater, jogging trails, hotels, and a number of retail outlets. Builders broke ground for the market roughly 7 months ago. It will be much different from McAllen’s La Plaza Mall.
Resaca Market’s Vision
The Resaca Market is creating an outdoor/indoor design that accommodates the growing entertainment needs of the region. Going to the Resaca will be more than just your normal shopping trip, and that is the point.
You can go out and spend the entire day shopping, eating, and entertaining yourself or your family in one location. It is the first of its kind in the area. It is an exciting project, also, because of the value it will bring to the community. The shopping center will create jobs and expands the number of places valley residents can go to for quality shopping.
The Rio Grande Valley is a booming location, and the rest of the country is noticing. The Resaca Market is an exciting addition to the entertainment options that have started coming to the Valley. They are trying to do something that has never been done here, and when you see the renderings of the location you can see the differences. The creation of the resaca is something special because it comes right up to the shopping areas. You can picture yourself having lunch on the water side as others around you are kayaking.
The addition of a hotel also brings opportunities for more events and conferences that can occur in the Edinburg area. The Resaca Market has the potential to be a hot spot for all kinds of music, tech, and outdoor events. This combination of fun, shopping, and leisure is hard not to be excited about and what’s best is it’s only minutes away from our Russel Park Community. Imagine being able to live in a great WestWind home, with great neighbors, and one of newest and best entertainment areas coming to the entire Rio Grande Valley area. The official completion date has yet to be announced, but it is speculated to be done later this year.
